Debbie Harry

You may better know her as Blondie. Debbie was born on July 1, 1945 in Miami, Florida. The Harry Family in Hawthorn, New Jersey adopted Debbie at three months old. In 1960, she worked as a playboy bunny in Kansas City.

She began her career in 1968 playing with a folk band called The Wind in the Willows, she appeared as a back up singer. In 1973, she met Chris Stein who became her long time boyfriend; together they created the band Blondie.

Blondie was not an overnight success; they had many years of struggling before hitting it big.


Debbie HarryIn the late 1970’s and early 80’s, Blondie was one of the most popular bands around. Some of the best songs released by the band were Heart of Glass, Tide is High and Rapture. The band broke up in 1983.

But Debbie did not give up and continued to record music on her own. She went on to release 5 solo albums. She got involved in Aids charities and even appeared on Broadway.

Since 1995, she has been performing with Elvis Costello and the Jazz Passengers doing shows here in the United States and in Europe. In 1995, Blondie released a remix CD of their greatest hits.

In 2003, Blondie reunited and soon began work on another album and is now working on another album and they are currently touring.
