When Joan was 15 years old she started a band called the Runaways. That band also started the careers of Lita Ford, Sandy West and Cherie Currie. Joan did the vocals and played the rhythm guitar. She also wrote most of the songs performed by the band. They recorded 5 albums and toured with Tom Petty and the Heart breakers. When they traveled to Japan they had found they tapped into a large following.
After a successful run, the band disbanded in 1979. Joan moved to England and continued with a solo career but soon returned to the U.S and began the band Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. The late 70’s and the early 80’s belonged to Joan Jett.
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts recently completed work on another album and are currently on tour. People of all ages go to see them to relive their childhood through their music.
